The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
PEACE Heartsease Serenity Tranquil Ataraxis Smooth Quiet Still Many words to communicate a state; synonyms War! Mental stability is lost War! Emotions not stable; waves lack rhythm War! Frequencies jammed up War! Vision shrouded... hearts beat overboard, sanity is lost War! Supposed human beings now animals Animosity built from misguided conceptions; propaganda (did evolution take a pause?) Hearts and minds lost in the vague Peace! Human beings attuned to being human Hearts and minds crystal clear Peace! Love feeds a mind on a quest Peace! The heart roots like the Buddha Tensions diffused, hands touch hearts to ease War; vices in character feed to weave a fright Hands chopped off in an attempt to touch for warmth Minds misplaced for power Antennae of hate plunges out from the shadow What is humanity without brotherhood? Peace! Its essence seems lost What is the reason for lost pursuit; propaganda? Peace! Simplicity nurtures the human heart The sun gives birth to passion Humidity peaks, warmth awaits for a release Rivers flow for cleansing purity Peace!
