The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
The sun is going down on truth The war is the prove The world suffering the pain Thats how it feels once again Storms of conflict blow pass Poor inocent souls dying fast Godfathers our leaders claimed but they're fake messiahs Politics makes them powerful liars All we see is war In our world of little or no liberty The fortune teller says it all not But when things fall apart peace depart I bring to my people peace only The sun is going down on the truth slowly Why don't we stand and say it out boldly "WE WANT PEACE" Peace. This Fire There is a fire burning, The fire hurts not. The fire isn't hot. This fire doesn't make the blood run cold. This fire has a story that must be told. Its flame is passion. And has much compassion. This fire is means everything. This fire doesn't destroy anything thing. This fire is beautiful. This fire is wonderful. This fire inspires. This fire unites. This fire hates fights. It frowns on hostility but smiles at unity. This fire makes the world a better place. This fire has no race. This fire must not be seized. This fire is called peace. Peace it is. Peace we seek.
