Paper Cranes

Poetry for Peace Contest

The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.

Below is one of the contest entries.

Bomb Day

Flying through the air
When I am not a bird
Feeling the burn of fire
Run through my bones
Pushing on to find help
Don’t know if I should cry harder for myself
Or my loved ones that are gone
My house, home, place of love
Gone forever
It was not my fault
Why do I have to pay?
Cities gone, my happiness too
Face unrecognizable
Hearts torn to shreds
All I have left is my name
And that won’t keep me alive forever.
