The Poetry for Peace contest was held from 15 September until 14 October 2011. The winners were anounced at a ceremony at UN headquarters in New York.
Below is one of the contest entries.
Mushroom Cloud A small dim-light classroom had light pouring through the windows. The quiet voices of the walking school children became shrills that people heard before their own. Ominous seconds which took countless lives and destroyed establishments forged with blood and tears. A malicious decision brought down by Retaliation. His presence was at large spilling blood of beings conceived through hours of nativity. Survivors might have asked: Was it really possible to extract life from death?
