Les Messagers de la Paix de Hiroshima et Nagasaki visitent les bureaux des Nations unies à Genève

September 15th, 2017

On 23 June 2017, over 20 Hiroshima and Nagasaki Peace Messengers (also known as Youth Communicators for a World without Nuclear Weapons) visited the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) in Geneva. The students from Japan were joined by first, second and third generation “Hibakusha”—survivors of the 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Anja Kaspersen, Director of UNODA in Geneva, welcomed the students to the UN, where they shared personal stories about the experiences of their relatives in the atomic bombings. They also presented Ms. Kaspersen with a petition of 214,300 signatures calling for the elimination of nuclear weapons, adding to a 17-year campaign that already boasts over 1,677,212 names.
