The Population Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), in collaboration with the Consejo Nacional de Población (CONAPO) of Mexico and with the support of the National Institute of Aging (NIA) of the United States, organized an expert group meeting on the social and economic implications of changing population age structures. The meeting took place in Mexico City from 31 August to 2 September 2005. |
Expert group meeting on the post-2015 era: Implications for the global research agenda on population and development
Overview
“The post-2015 era: Implications for the global research agenda on population and development” expert group meeting will identify and discuss research priorities on population and development that merit global attention in the next 15 years. The meeting will bring together researchers and academics, experts from Governments and international organizations, as well as representatives from donors and civil society.
There will be six substantive panel discussions and common questions to be addressed in each panel are:

Overview
The Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) will hold a briefing on the substantive reports of the Secretary-General that have been prepared for the fifty-second session of the Commission. The meeting will be chaired by His Excellency Mr. E. Courtenay Rattray (Jamaica), Chair-designate of the fifty-second session.
All interested members of delegations, representatives of non-governmental organizations and Secretariat staff are invited to attend.

Second Special Session of the Population Commission
In accordance with the decision of the Economic and Social Council at its fifty-third session, the Population Commission held its second special session at United Nations Headquarters from 19 to 30 March 1973. The Commission held 19 plenary meetings (268th to 286th meetings).
International Conference on Population and Development
The Fifth International Conference on Population and Development was held from 5 to 13 September 1994 under the auspices of the United Nations. More than 180 States participated in this event, at which a new Programme of Action was adopted as a guide for national and international action in the area of population and development for the next 20 years.
