Participation at final inter-governmental negotiations on post-2015

Joan Carling, member of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous IssuesJoan Carling (Philippines), Member of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) attended the final inter-governmental negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda from 20 to 24 July 2014. During that week, she met with numerous representatives of Member States to discuss the priorities of indigenous peoples for the post-2015 agenda. The agenda will be adopted by the General Assembly during a summit in September 2015. 

The finalized text “Transforming our world: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” contains several references to indigenous peoples. Indigenous peoples are currently referenced, along with various other groups, in two targets: target 2.3 on agricultural productivity and incomes of small-scale food producers, and target 4.5 on eliminating gender disparities and increasing access to education.

The agenda is set to be adopted by the General Assembly in September 2015.
