Accelerating Global Actions for a World without a Poverty

The purpose of the meeting is to bring together experts from the United Nations system, government, academia, think thanks, as well as civil society organizations to (i) discuss key questions related to the implementation of the United Nations system-wide plan of action for the Third United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty, including the role that United Nations system can play to accelerate global actions for a world without poverty.

The meeting is convened in preparation for the fifty-ninth session of the Commission, which is expected to produce a negotiated policy outcome (a resolution) on the priority theme. The outcomes of the meeting will contribute to the work of the Commission by providing concrete, evidence-based recommendations on policies for enabling a socially just transition towards sustainable development, with a focus on the role of digital technologies. The meeting is also expected to provide inputs to the report of the Secretary-General on the priority theme.
Virtual Expert Group Meeting on “Navigating an Insecure Future”

The meeting organized by UN DESA will bring together experts to discuss their most recent research on economic insecurity. It will serve to gather inputs from experts on an emerging and very current challenge: insecurity and its drivers. Experts will present recent research on insecurity and will discuss its drivers and impacts, with a focus on helping DESA define the fundamental issues that its normative and analytical work should cover and promote. The experts will also make policy recommendations.
The expert group meeting aims to review recent research on economic insecurity, its drivers, and its implications. To accomplish these objectives, the meeting will bring together experts from the research community, civil society, and the UN system

Virtual Expert Group Meeting on Indigenous Peoples and Pandemics

Every year, the Division of Inclusive Social Development of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) organizes an international expert group meeting (EGM) on a theme recommended by the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and endorsed by the Economic and Social Council. The meeting focused on the situation of indigenous peoples specifically during COVID-19, taking into consideration the significant challenges already faced by indigenous populations.
