On 23 May 2019, Canada submitted to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, in accordance with Article 76, paragraph 8, of the Convention, information on the limits of its continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial sea is measured in the Arctic Ocean.

It is noted that the Convention entered into force for Canada on 7 December 2003.

According to the submitting State, this is a partial submission.

In accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Commission (CLCS/40/Rev.1), a communication was circulated to all Member States of the United Nations, as well as States Parties to the Convention, in order to make public the executive summary of the submission, including all charts and coordinates contained in that summary.

The consideration of the partial submission made by Canada was included in the provisional agenda of the fifty-second session of the Commission held in New York from 27 January to 13 March 2020.

On 19 December 2022, Canada submitted to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, in accordance with Article 76, paragraph 8, of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 10 December 1982, an addendum to its original Submission dated 23 May 2019.

In accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Commission (CLCS/40/Rev.1), a communication is being circulated to all Member States of the United Nations, as well as States Parties to the Convention, in order to make public the executive summary of the addendum including all charts and coordinates contained in that summary.

Upon completion of the consideration of the submission, the Commission shall make recommendations pursuant to Article 76 of the Convention.
