The Loss and Damage Fund – why does it matter?
Prolonged heat waves, droughts, wildfires, storms, rising sea level and other climate impacts are causing economic and other losses and damages around the world, predominantly in developing countries. At COP27, countries agreed to establish a fund that would provide financial assistance to climate-vulnerable countries. At COP28, financing of more than USD 700 million started flowing into the fund.
