Oil-for-Food Background Information

During the current reporting period, the Office of the Iraq Programme received a further 29 applications for approval of contracts for the supply of oil spare parts or equipment with a total value of $15,294,959 million dollars. The OIP has now received a total of 324 contracts with a value of $181,061,177 dollars. The Security Council's 661 Committee approved a further seven applications worth $4.6 million dollars for a total approvals of 139 contracts worth $97.5 million. (details in chart) During the past week a further eleven contracts worth $6,141,608 dollars were put on hold. The total number contracts on hold is now 96 worth $44,944,503 million dollars.
The oil overseers report that in the past week there were 10 loadings totalling 10.4 million barrels with an estimated value of $102 million. There were no new contracts approved. The number of oil sales contracts remains at 59 for a total of 308,455,000 barrels. The revenue generated during Phase IV which lasts from 30 May to 25 November is $2812 million. There were no new contracts for humanitarian supplies submitted or approved under Distribution Plan III. Seven contracts were approved under the Enhanced Distribution Plan. Since the first shipments in March 1997, more than 7.5 million tonnes of food, nearly $400 million dollars worth of medicine as well as more than $200 million dollars worth of supplies for the agriculture, power generation and distribution, water and sanitation and education sectors have arrived in Iraq under the oil for food programme. |
