Former Vice President of the United States Al Gore is supporting the United Nations in an initiative led by the Climate Reality Project to demand that world leaders act on climate change at the September 23rd UN Climate Summit in New York City. The campaign asks young people to use their voices to raise the profile of the climate crisis and build support for a binding international agreement on greenhouse gas reductions at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties in Paris in 2015.

Youth between the ages of 13 and 21 are invited to record a video posing tough Why? or Why not? questions about the climate crisis, such as:

“Why do we continue burning fossil fuels that cause climate change?”

“Why not switch to clean, renewable energy?”

Videos are submitted at the Ask Why Why Not website and will represent the generation with the most to lose on September 23 at the UN Climate Summit in New York City. Six participants will be chosen by the Climate Reality Project to attend the Summit and challenge today’s leaders to consider the future.

Those over 21 are encouraged to be active in the campaign by sharing it on social media with the hashtag #WhyWhyNot and spreading the message by word of mouth, in addition to signing up for emails at the Climate Reality website to receive all the latest news.
