The World YWCA and the YMCA Switzerland will convene a Youth Forum on Friday 10 June 2016 at the Palais des Nations, room XVIII before the start of the 32nd session of the Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva.

What is the purpose of the HRC Youth Forum? What will happen during the day?

HRC constitutes one of the most important international mechanisms responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the globe and yet youth participation is very limited. There are no institutionalized processes in place ensuring that youth voices are listened to and sufficiently incorporated into its ways of work. This Youth Forum will therefore give clearer guidance on how young people can participate and engage meaningfully with the regular sessions of the HRC and its Universal Periodic Review (UPR) system. Enabling youth to have a voice at the HRC is critical in order to ensure that decisions and resolutions are sustainable and take into account the needs of an unprecedented number of young people in the world. This effort will also contribute to the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

During the day, participants will have the opportunity to take part in interactive sessions, intergenerational dialogues and working groups with experts. The day’s outcomes will then feed into a set of recommendations.
