The Envoy on Youth Ahmad Alhendawi is on a week-long official mission to Africa, where he will visit Kenya and Ethiopia, to conduct a series of meetings with UN and African Union (AU) officials, as well as with local youth groups.

On Monday morning, Alhendawi met with the Director of the UN Office in Nairobi (UNON), Under-Secretary-General Ms. Sahle-Work Zewde. The Envoy on Youth also met with the UN Resident Coordinator for Kenya, Ms. Nardos Bekele-Thomas, Deputy Director of the ILO Country Office for Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda, Ms. Hopolang Phororo, and UNEP Deputy Director Mr. Ibrahim Thiaw.

Later in the day, the Envoy held a meeting with the Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development in Kenya, where he presented global and regional priorities of his work to the members of the network. During the meeting, attended by a group of young people and the UN Country Team, the members also presented their programming on youth. The meeting discussion also focused on strengthening the inter-agency cooperation on youth related programming and activities.

Today, Alhendawi also held meetings with members of the Kenya Parliamentary Committee on Youth, including MP Ken Obura (Kisumu Central Constituency), MP Shukra Hussein (Garisa County).

Throughout his visit, the Envoy on Youth is set to meet with local groups and take part in bilateral meetings with UN-Habitat Member States. He will also participate in a roundtable discussion on youth, peacebuilding and post-conflict issues, and meet with UN-Habitat Deputy Executive Director Ms. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira.
