At an event held in New York, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced new mechanisms for youth to engage with the organisation. The youth participation mechanism is centered around the establishment of Youth Advisory Boards to UN offices in countries around the world and regional and global ECOSOC youth Forums.

“In the work that the United Nations is carrying out across the globe on a daily basis, it is crucial that young people’s priorities are fully taken on board. I am therefore particularly happy about the Secretary-General’s personal engagement and his commitment to support the UN Volunteer’s Modality for Youth and to establish Youth Advisory Boards to the UN country teams as well as the Regional and Global ECOSOC Youth Forums” said the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi.

Together with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Envoy on Youth Ahmad Alhendawi will facilitate UN Regional Fora for Youth as well as a Global ECOSOC Youth Forum to make sure that young people can participate and engage with the United Nations at all levels.
