On 12 July 2013, the United Nations celebrated Malala Day, an event which brought together hundreds of young leaders to call on world leaders to ensure free and compulsory education for every child around the world.  The meeting was addressed by former United Kingdom Prime Minister Gordon Brown, in his capacity as UN Special Envoy for Global Education, Vuk Jeremić, President of the General Assembly, and Ahmad Alhendawi, the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth.

Malala’s speech is available in the videos section.
