MONITORING AND EVALUATION
Perhaps the most
critical role OSAGI can play in supporting gender mainstreaming
is through its assessment of, and reporting on, progress in
different parts of the Secretariat, the regional commissions
and the United Nations Offices in Geneva, Vienna and Nairobi
and peace operation missions. The Special Adviser takes up gender
mainstreaming in all missions to entities in the United Nations
system and reports on progress to the Secretary-General. Progress
reports are also prepared on the work of OSAGI to support gender
mainstreaming. (See progress report in Gender Mainstreaming
home page).
The Principal Social
Affairs Officer responsible for gender mainstreaming in OSAGI
has visited ESCAP (1999), ESCWA (2000), ECE (2000) and UNOV
(2001) for consultations with senior management and assessment
of progress.
