Screening of "Women are", a 52-minute film that describes the hardships women face in light of the growing AIDS threat, will take place on 8 March, 3-5 pm at Dag Hammarskjöld Library Auditorium.

Women, Girls, HIV and AIDS is the theme for the World AIDS Campaign 2004 and for FAO's 8 March commemoration of International Women's Day.

Every year, the ILO celebrates International Women's Day to emphasize its commitment to gender equality and equal recognition. On the schedule this year are a three-day film festival and a panel discussion on women in the judiciary.

To mark the International Women's Day 8 March, and to give prominence to the high professionalism of women journalists, UNESCO's Director-General, Koi"chiro Matsuura calls on the media worldwide to hand over editorial responsibility to women to cast the news for a day. Through this initiative UNESCO seeks to give more visibility to women journalists, to their editorial work, as well as to women as voices in the media.

On International Women's Day, UNIFEM will participate in a panel discussion on Women and HIV/AIDS organized by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women (OSAGI)

In keeping with the UN theme for 8 March "Women and HIV/AIDS", the Gender and Women's Health Department (GWH) is holding a panel discussion on this theme.

To commemorate the IWD a seminar was held at the Al-Fateh Univeristy today i.e 8th of March 2004 under the title "The Libyan Women; her past present and future", organized by the Teachers Association of the University, in coordination with UNIC and UN Resident Coordinator's office at university Auditorium.

UNIC Manama and UNDP Bahrain facilitated the organization of a seminar by The Information Centre for Women and Children (ICWC) a leading Bahraini NGO to mark the International Women's Day at the Children and Mothers Welfare Society (CMWS) on 9-Mar-04. The seminar aimed to highlight the women's achievement during the last five years in the Arab World was held under the title 'Arab Women's Gains During the New Millennium'. Dr Khaled Aloush, UNDP Res. Rep. & UNIC Director was one of the main speakers in the seminar.
