Introduction

At its 49th session in March 2005, the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will undertake a review and appraisal of implementation of the Platform for Action and the outcome of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly. A panel discussion on 'Regional Perspectives in the Implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action and the Outcome of the Twenty-Third Special Session of the General Assembly entitled Women 2000: Gender Equality, Development and Peace for the Twenty-First Century' was held on Friday, 7 May 2004 in Conference Room 1 from 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.

The panel discussion provides an opportunity to engage in interactive dialogue with experts from all regions on achievements and gaps and challenges in implementation of the Platform. Members of Permanent Missions, Secretariat staff, representatives of non-governmental organizations, academia and the media were invited to attend.
