Patricia Flor, Chair, Commission on the Status of Women

 Ms Patricia Flor's assignment at the United Nations began in 1996, as Political Officer on Advancement of Women and Social Affairs, in Germany's Permanent Mission to the United Nations.  In March 1998, she was elected Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women.  She also recently served as Acting Chair of the Preparatory Committee for the Special Session of the General Assembly, "Women 2000: Gender Equality, Development and Peace for the 21st Century".

Prior to her assignment at the United Nations, Ms Flor served  from 1993 to 1995 as Political and Press Officer in Germany's Embassy in Almaty, Kazakhstan. From 1992 to 1993 she served in the Foreign Office of her country as Attaché.  From 1981 to 1985, Ms Flor was a journalist for Nurnberger Nachrichten (Nüremberg News). In 1985, she was a free lance journalist in the USA.

Born in Nüremberg, Germany in 1961, Ms Flor was trained as a journalist from 1981-1983. She holds a MA degree and a Ph.D from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. She also holds a Master of Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
