Elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against the girl-child
In accordance with its multi-year programme of work for 2007-2009, the Commission on the Status of Women will consider “The elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against the girl child” as its priority theme during its fifty-first session in 2007. In order to contribute to a further understanding of the issue and to assist the Commission in its deliberations, the United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), organized an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the topic. The EGM was hosted by the UNICEF Innocenti Research Centre in Florence, Italy, from 25 to 28 September 2006.
In preparation for the Expert Group Meeting, DAW also hosted an on-line discussion on the theme.
An on-line discussion on the theme of “The elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against the girl child” was held from 14 August to 8 September 2006. More than 500 individuals from across the globe took part in the discussion.
