Organizes and provides substantive and technical servicing to the Committee on the
Elimination of Discrimination against Women; prepares background documents for the
Committee; analyses provisions of the Committee; provides technical assistance and advice
on implementation of the Convention, including reporting, and its Optional Protocol;
Implements the communications procedure of the Commission on the Status of Women which
allows for the consideration of confidential and non-confidential communications on the
status of women and the formulation of recommendations in that regard;
Seeks to ensure the mainstreaming of a gender perspective in the work of other human
rights mechanisms, including treaty bodies and extra-conventional mechanisms, such as the
special procedures of the Commission on Human Rights;
Works through regular outreach activities to create awareness of women's human rights;
Prepares reports for intergovernmental bodies on women's human rights and violence
against women. |
