United Nations commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

On 24 November 2009, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon the United Nations will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

As part of this commemorative event, the Secretary-General will launch a Network of Men Leaders who will promote his ongoing Campaign "UNiTE to end violence against women", 2008-2015. Each member of the Secretary-General's Network of Men Leaders will highlight the critical role that men can play in ending violence against women, and pledge to identify and undertake specific actions to further the Secretary-General's Campaign around the world.

The Secretary-General launched his "UNite" Campaign to raise public awareness and increase the political will and resources for preventing and responding to all forms of violence against women and girls.

The Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and the Advancement of Women warmly invites you to attend the launch of the Network and join the Secretary-General in commemorating this important day. Please join us in the Trustee Ship Cousel Chambers at 10 a.m. We look forward to seeing all of you but in particular extend a special invitation to the men to come and join the Secretary General and us.




International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
