Every year, over 1 million visitors from around the world visit the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, located on 1st Avenue between 45th and 46th Street.

As part of an ongoing renovation and restoration project to make the United Nations Headquarters in New York a safer, more modern, and more energy-efficient complex for delegates, staff, and visitors, the General Assembly Building will be closed for renovations on 31 May 2013.
The Visitor Centre will thus be relocated from the General Assembly Building (45th Street & 1st Avenue) to the Dag Hammarskjöld Library Building (42nd Street & 1st Avenue) effective 5 June 2013.
We expect to be at this temporary location until 2015. While guided tours will continue throughout the period of renovation, we anticipate significant changes in terms of access and availability of tours. As a first step, we have modified our booking procedures and ask for your patience and understanding during this period of transition.
Starting in June, tickets for guided tours in English and other languages will only be available through online purchases. We are currently offering tours in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. While we make every effort to offer a tour in the language of your choice, we are unfortunately unable to guarantee a specific language being available on any given day. In the event that the language tour purchased is not available on the day of the tour, please note that the tour will be conducted in English.
Please also note that tour tickets will NOT be sold on premises and a guided tour ticket for visitors is required to enter the UN Headquarters.

With new public access regulations and limitations, group bookings (15 persons per block) for guided tours must also be purchased online. Queries can be addressed to unitg@un.org.

Weekly Public UN Children's Tour
We launched our new Children’s Tours for elementary school children in February 2013. The tour is tailored to children aged 5 and 12 years. During the one hour tour the Security Council, disarmament, peacekeeping and Millennium Development Goals are explained in a "kid-friendly" way.
We have scheduled a weekly UN Children's Tour at 4:00 p.m. every Thursday.
For May 2013, tour tickets for the Children's Tour are sold on a first-come, first-served basis on site at the Visitor Centre, starting at 9:00 am. You may also call (+1) 212-963-7539 starting at 10:00 am on the day of your tour to make a reservation. Tickets can only be reserved and purchased on the day of the tour. Please note that children must be accompanied by an adult and, therefore, at least one adult ticket will also need to be purchased.
Starting in June 2013, Children’s Tour tickets will only be available through online purchases. Please note that tour tickets will NOT be sold on premises and a guided tour ticket for visitors is required to enter the UN Headquarters.

Weekend Visits
Unfortunately due to renovations, the United Nations is currently not offering guided tours during the weekend hours. However, the United Nations building is open to the public for normal visits until further notice.

Exhibition for a Mine-Free World Now Showing!
For a mine-free world - 20 years of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines
The exhibition "For a mine-free world" is currently on display in the Main Gallery, Visitors' Lobby of the Visitors' Centre, United Nations Headquarters, New York. It is organised by Handicap International, Medico International and Solidarity Service International (SODI) in conjunction with the Federal Foreign Office of the Permanent Mission of Germany in Geneva and New York and United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS). The exhibits on display relate to such topics as mine clearance, victim support, risk education, and the economic and social consequences of landmines and cluster munitions being deployed. The collection includes large prints by the well known photographers Lukas Einsele, John Rodsted, Sean Sutton and Till Mayer, taken in the worst affected countries: Afghanistan, Kosovo, Libya, Uganda, Viet Nam and Laos. Shirin Homann Saadat’s Landmine Box and the Virtual Minefield, an installation by conceptual artist Peter Zizka, are also on display.
