The Sport for Development and Peace International Working Group (SDP IWG) is focusing on five different Thematic Working Groups:

• Sport and Child and Youth Development
• Sport and Gender
• Sport and Peace
• Sport and Persons with Disabilities
• Sport and Health

The five Thematic Working Groups are based on the thematic divisions contained within the SDP IWG Report “Harnessing the Power of Sport for Development and Peace: Recommendations to Governments” published in 2008.

The objective is to reach out to governments, the UN system, the private sector, international and national sport federations and international organizations. They are encouraged to implement policy and programme recommendations, to adopt national policies in order to include Sport as a tool for Development and Peace, and to establish Sport for Development and Peace projects and programmes.
