Welcome to the United Nations. It's your world.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) focuses on advocacy and partnership-building, using sport to promote development and peace, and the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

1. "Score the Goals" Educational Comic Book

UNDP is one of the six UN organizations involved in the project "Score the Goals - Teaming Up to Achieve the Millennium Development Goals", a 32-page educational comic book featuring 10 football UN Goodwill Ambassadors who become shipwrecked on an island on their way to playing an ‘all-star’ charity football game. Whilst on the island, the team has to tackle the eight MDGs along their journey towards being rescued. The comic book is primarily aimed at 8-14 year old children and provides a fun interactive way to help them understand, familiarize and reflect about the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as well as inviting them to take action through several activities provided in the adjoining educational guide.,

2. "Match Against Poverty": Ronaldo & Friends vs Zidane and Friends

The Match Against Poverty has been held each year since 2003, at the initiative of star footballers and UNDP Goodwill Ambassadors Zinédine Zidane and Ronaldo, to raise awareness of and to advocate for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and to raise funds that support specific development projects selected by UNDP.

3. Teams to End Poverty Initiative

"Teams to end Poverty" is a global communication and partnerships initiative that is designed to involve the general public in anti-poverty actions. It has been launched by UNDP and seeks to garner support for achieving the Millennium Development Goals. 50 celebrities, including Drogba, Ronaldo and Zidane, participate in the initiative and are getting involved in specific anti-poverty activities.

UNDP, as part of the UN family, is pursuing partnerships with FIFA and its partners in the context of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, focused on advocating for the MDGs, ensuring that achieving them is a priority and to encourage people to stand up, make a difference and take action.

6. 'Soccer and Peace' Network

Created in 2010 by UNDP, the 'Soccer and Peace' Network aims to create an open network of organizations that use soccer/football to promote coexistence, reconciliation and peace among children, adolescents and young adults in Colombia. Close to 25,000 beneficiaries participate in the programmes offered by the various foundations, associations and institutions in the Network.
