SPORT FOR DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE THE UN SYSTEM IN ACTION

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), through its UN Programme on Youth and the Division for Social Policy and Development integrates sport to promote healthy, active lifestyles for youth. Until the end of 2010, DESA was also host of the Division for the Advancement of Women (now merged into UN Women) and, as such, has contributed to the advancement of gender equality and women’s empowerment through sport.
