SPORT FOR DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE THE UN SYSTEM IN ACTION

Structure

The SDP IWG consists of the following bodies:

Plenary:
Members (Member State representatives) and Observers (UN Organizations, Inter-governmental organizations, NGOs as well as academic institutions and universities)

Executive Board:
Consists of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, Regional Representatives, Working Group Chairs and Donors. Currently the Executive Board is chaired by Ms. Debbie Lye, International Development Director at UK Sport and Programme Director of International Inspiration.

Thematic Working Groups:
The Sport for Development and Peace International Working Group (SDP IWG) is focusing on five different Thematic Working Groups. The “Sport and Child & Youth Development”, “Sport and Gender” and “Sport and Peace” Thematic Working Groups are currently fully activated (in blue on the chart below). “Sport and Health” and “Sport and Persons with Disabilities” will be launched soon (in beige on the chart below).

Secretariat:
Hosted by the UN Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP).

Funding:
For the time being funding to the SDP IWG is provided by the following donors (in alphabetical order): Canada, Norway, and the United Kingdom. Interested governments are invited to similarly get involved and pledge resources to the SDP IWG.
