“Sport and Persons with Disabilities” was the fourth Thematic Working Group of the SDP IWG to be activated, and the Working Group is co-chaired by the Republic of Korea and the People's Republic of China, after being elected in 2014. The draft strategic framework has been developed and is detailed in the “Sport and Persons with Disabilities” Action Plan. This document will be made available online after being formally adopted.

The Working Group will focus on the following three Strategic Priority Areas:

  1. Independence and Sport Participation
  2. Using Sport to Empower Persons with Disabilities
  3. Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities within Sport

You may learn more about each of these topics by reading the SDP IWG Report “Harnessing the Power of Sport for Development and Peace: Recommendations to Governments”.

The SDP IWG Secretariat encourages Member States to come forward with proposals to chair the ’Sport and Persons with Disabilities’ Thematic Working Group.
