Sport is unique in its ability to unify and galvanize people all over the world. Sportsmen and women are recognized as role models and the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) is creating partnerships with individuals and organizations to build on this – to raise awareness on AIDS issues and to help inform people about how to protect themselves against HIV infection. Sport is an exceptional platform to create greater public awareness in order to help countries meet their targets for universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support by 2010.
