UN Special Adviser on Sport for Development and Peace visits DPRK

9 July 2013 (UNOSDP). Mr. Wilfried Lemke, the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, visited the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) from 6 to 9 July 2013 at the invitation of the Government of the DPRK.

 

During his mission Mr. Lemke met the Minister of Sport and Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, Mr. RI Jong Moo and other senior officials of the Committee, representatives of the Football Federation, Women Sports Committee and the Paralympic Committee. The Special Adviser visited Masik skiing facilities which are under construction. He also visited various sport facilities in Pyongyang.

Mr. Lemke stated that his mission was fruitful in increasing understanding of the policies and programmes of the DPRK in the field of sports and also identifying areas where the country needs external assistance. He plans to report his findings to the Secretary-General and follow up on the issues raised during the mission.
