Youth leaders meet UN Secretary-General in Chungju

YLP participants meet with the UN Secretary General at the FISA World Championships

Gwangju (UNOSDP)- The International Rowing Federation (FISA), partners of the Gwangju Youth Leadership Programme, today got their World Championships underway with a brief appearance from Chungju native and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon grew up in the South Korean city and he joined FISA President and International Olympic Committee (IOC) Presidential candidate Denis Oswald in welcoming competitors from a record 75 countries to the World Championships which run from tomorrow until next Sunday (September 1).

Participants from the Gwangju had the honor of meeting the UN Secretary-General  at the prestigious event. Whilst in Chungju, the participants were treated to the Opening Ceremony of the championships, as well as the opportunity to learn about rowing itself and FISA’s approach to environmental education.
