Cologne, Germany (UNOSDP) - The German Association of Disabled Sports recently held a ceremony to honour top athletes and award the Disabled Sportsperson of the Year 2014.  The ceremony, which was held in Cologne, Germany, was attended by top politicians, athletes, partners and sponsors of the GDSA, and members of the media.
The UN Special Adviser on Sport Strongly Denounces Attack at Volleyball Match 24 November 2014
Geneva, Switzerland (UNOSDP) - The Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, Mr. Wilfried Lemke, is shocked and saddened by the suicide attack at a volleyball match in the Yahyakhail district of Paktika province, Afghanistan, that has left at least 45 people dead and more wounded.
100 Days Until the Tohoku Youth Leadership Camp 22 November 2014
Geneva, Switzerland (UNOSDP) – Today is 100 days until the start of the Youth Leadership Camp (YLC) in Tohoku, Japan.  After a successful camp last year in Tokyo during the 8th Youth Leadership Camp, the Japan Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport, Science and Technology is aiming to continue its investment in the promotion of sport as a tool for development and peace, especially leading up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Sport and the United Nations - The Special Adviser Visits Cape Town 11 November 2014
Cape Town, South Africa (UNOSDP) – The Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, Mr. Wilfried Lemke, was in Cape Town, South Africa this week. During the two-day visit, Mr. Lemke was speaking and engaging with students, athletes, academics, and the community at the University of the Western Cape to discuss the importance of sport as a peacebuilding and development tool, specifically in South Africa.
