5th World Conference on Women and Sport hosted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC)

Mr. Wilfried Lemke, the Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace will have the pleasure of attending the upcoming 5th World Conference on Women and Sport hosted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Los Angeles, California.

Under the theme “Together Stronger: the Future of Sport”, the three-day conference will bring together high-level speakers from a variety of backgrounds. Amongst them IOC President Jacques Rogge; the IOC’s Women and Sport Commission chairperson, Anita DeFrantz; Chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, Sebastian Coe; H.E. Marjon V. Kamara, Chair of the UN’s Commission on Status of Women, as well as Geena Davis, Academy award winning actress and founder of the Geena Davis Institute in Gender in the media.

Organised jointly by the IOC, the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games, the event will cover a range of subjects, in both plenary and dialogue sessions, associated with the efforts to strengthen women’s representation both on the sports field and in leadership positions. Over 600 delegates have already registered to attend.

•  Raija Mattila, Co-chair 2010-2014 International Working Group on Women and Sport
•  Mellody Hobson – President, Ariel Capital Management; named a Global Leader of Tomorrow by the Davos World Economic Forum
•  Nancy Hogshead-Makar – Olympic medallist; expert on Title IX
•  Dr. Richard Lapchick – Director, Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sports
