UN Special Adviser on Sport Development and Peace receives reappointment from Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon 11 April 2014
UNOSDP (Geneva) - UN Special Adviser on Sport for Development and Peace, Mr Wilfried Lemke, has worked tirelessly to promote the use of sport as an effective tool for development, peace building and conflict resolution. Throughout his 2013/2014 term, Mr Lemke lead the way to coordinate the efforts of the United Nations in sport for development, and used this term to reinforce the understanding amongst the UN member states.
International Day of Sport for Development and Peace 4 April 2014
UNOSDP (Geneva) - Last August, the United Nations General Assembly adopted by consensus a resolution proclaiming 6 April as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. The objective of the proclamation is to promote the use of sport and physical activity as a tool for development and peace. The General Assembly invited all States, the United Nations system and all other relevant stakeholders to cooperate, observe and raise awareness of the Day.
