Welcome to this introductory module to important Pandemic Influenza information for all New York based staff!

Here, you will find a series of presentations and videos that will provide you with important information related to the 2009 pandemic (H1N1). Please take your time to go through each presentation and video. You can always email flupandemic@un.org if you have any questions.

The UN Medical Services, together with OHRM will also commence Townhall Meetings for all the Departments, which will include the same information.

1) Working in a Severe Pandemic (Video)
This video clip was prepared by WFP. It introduces the concept of how an everyday event, such as coming to work in an office setting, might change when in a scenario of a severe influenza pandemic. Please note that many examples in this video do not apply in the current situation of a moderate severity pandemic.

These presentations were prepared by the UN Medical Services. They share important strategies that every staff member should practice in order to prevent infection and to prepare for a severe pandemic. Pertinent information on the H1N1 pandemic vaccine is also available in these presentations.

3) What You Need to Know about Preparing for a Pandemic - Administrative Aspects (Powerpoint Presentation)
This presentation was prepared by OHRM. It highlights the actions that have been taken by the UN to prepare for a pandemic and reminds managers of their responsibilities in a pandemic situation.

This presentation was prepared by the Staff Counselor's Office. It describes how one can maintain personal and psychological resilience during a difficult and stressful situation, such as a pandemic.

5) How to Wash Your Hands (Video)
Handwashing is considered to be the single most effective means of preventing the spread of infections. This video, produced by WFP, will take you through using soap and water and hand sanitizing gel in order to effectively clean your hands. This video follows WHO guidelines for Hand Hygiene.

6) How to Properly Use a Surgical Mask (Video)
Surgical masks are recommended if you are ill with flu symptoms, or if you are a medical staff caring for flu patients. The video, produced by WFP, will teach you how to properly wear and take off the mask in a manner that minimizes contamination.
