UN DPI/NGO Relations organizes
- Weekly NGO Briefings
- Communications Workshops (one-day event, three times a year)
- Annual DPI/NGO Conference (three-day event)
- Annual Orientation Programme for newly associated NGOs (one two-day event)
UN DPI/NGO Relations provides
- Access to the annual UN DPI/NGO Conference
- annual grounds passes for access to the United Nations premises to up to three representatives of associated NGOs
- regular mailings of United Nations information materials, including UN system information materials (e-mail and hard copy)
- directory of associated NGOs (online and hard copy)
- website with information on past and upcoming events, news and other relevant issues and services
- through the NGO Resource Center, NGO representatives have access to:
- UN documents and UN system publications, etc.
- a video lending library
UN DPI/NGO Relations does NOT provide:
- drafting, e-mailing, faxing services
- phone numbers or make phone calls on behalf of associated NGO representatives
- special passes for guests of associated NGO representatives on an ad hoc basis and for events not organized by DPI/NGO Relations
- training of any kind on computer and/or technology usage
NGO Responsibilities
In order to remain in good standing, NGOs associated with the Department of Public Information must fulfill each of the following requirements:
- fill out the Annual Review every year. It is important that updated contact information is received from all NGOs, including those that are not based in the New York area
- keep NGO Relations informed about UN-related activities by submitting the annual review with the most updated information.
- promote knowledge of the United Nations
- disseminate information about the principles and activities of the United Nations
- receive DPI/NGO Relations' e-mails which are sent out to inform NGOs about United Nations activities
Grounds for disassociation include:
- failure to submit an accreditation and annual review form every year
- failure to meet criteria for association
- misrepresentation and fraud
- unsatisfactory collaboration with United Nations system organizations
- unauthorized use of the United Nations logo
Please note that association of NGOs with DPI does not constitute their incorporation into the United Nations system, nor does it entitle associated organizations or their staff to any kind of privileges, immunities or special status.
