The mission of the Office of the Capital Master Plan is to manage the historic renovation of the United Nations Headquarters Complex and to execute the renovation on time and within budget, in a safe, accountable, and transparent manner, in order to create a modern, safe and sustainable work environment.

With the completion of the visitors' area on the 1B level in January 2015 the CMP finished the renovation of the General Assembly Building as the last major part of the refurbishment of the United Nations Headquarters. Already on 24 September 2014, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, after a virtual ribbon-cutting ceremony during his speech to the General Assembly at the opening of the General Debate, had officially declared the General Assembly Hall open.

The interview was taped by the Center for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitats (CTBUH) on 6 November 2014 in Chicago, where the United Nations Secretariat Building was honored as a Finalist in the annual worldwide competition for the Best Tall Building Award.
