Ban stresses role of business in advancing sustainable development agenda

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today highlighted the critical role that businesses play in advancing sustainable development, and called for a surge in public-private partnerships ahead of a major United Nations conference on the issue next June. “We need you. More than ever before, we need to develop a long-term vision for our planet,” Mr. Ban said in remarks prepared for the UN Global Compact Board luncheon, held in New York.

Discussions begin on Rio+20 outcome document

Delegates from United Nations Member States gathered in New York today to begin discussions on inputs, the structure and format of the outcome document to be finalized by world leaders at next year’s UN conference on sustainable development in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.
