In September 2009, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon launched an appeal for public participation in the video contest for the selection of five Citizen Ambassadors.
UN Messenger of Peace George Clooney, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Mathaai and Goodwill Ambassador Ronaldo Lima joined in asking people all over the world to create a three-minute video in which they would have a chance to say to world leaders how they could make the world a better and safer place.
