Jean Tissot

With deep regret UNRWA announces the death of Mr. Jean Tissot, Director of UNRWA Operations in the West Bank. He died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Copenhagen on July 16 after a serious illness.
Jean joined the West Bank Field Office in March 2004 as Deputy-Director and was appointed Director in February this year. He will be fondly remembered for his wide knowledge of humanitarian and development issues, his sterling leadership abilities, and his sympathy and support for the Palestinian people.
Jean’s career in international humanitarian and development work took him to DR Congo with Save the Children in 2002-2003. Before that he held several positions with the Danish Refugee Council -- in Ingushetia and Chechnya in the Russian Federation, in DR Congo where he worked also with UNHCR, and in the Great Lakes region including Rwanda and Tanzania, where he worked with WFP. Jean’s early business career took him also to Algeria and France, as well as his native Copenhagen.
A citizen of Denmark, and a graduate of the Copenhagen Business School (M Sc in Economics and Business Administration) Jean Tissot was born February 10, 1957. He is survived by his wife Nicole and two children, Phillip and Isabelle.
