Graduation of the Second GCSP-UNRWA Scholarship
Recipient
Dr. Naema Al Modallal of the UNRWA (United Nations
Relief and Works Agency for Refugees in the Near East), based in Gaza,
was the second recipient of the GCSP (Geneva Centre for Security Policy)
-UNRWA Scholarship for the New Issues in Security Course (NISC),
directed by Dr. Khalid Koser and co-directed by Dr. Caty Clément. This
scholarship is designed for future leaders in Palestine with a role in
the area of peace and security.
The NISC is a three-month course that focuses on
non-traditional security issues and challenges. Its objectives are to
promote the understanding of today's complex challenges in peace and
security and to respond cooperatively and effectively to crisis
situations, based upon the ethos of human security and multilateral,
multicultural teamwork engendered during the course.
This year, 26 participants from 21 different
countries graduated from this course.
Dr. Al Modallal, who graduated from the NISC today,
shared her views with the GCSP: "The courses run by the GCSP are
highly professional, and have a degree of multiculturalism and diversity
that provides participants with a deep understanding of international
security issues and the appropriate responses" . She also added "I
developed very close relationships with friends from all over the world
and I will definitely keep in touch with them ".
