Beddawi CAMP

Established by UNRWA in 1955, Beddawi camp is located on a hill in North Lebanon, 5 kms north of Tripoli.

UNRWA Education Programme

  • Schools: Six elementary/preparatory schools, one secondary school.
  • One UNRWA kindergarten teaching French for 45 enrolled pupils in 2007/2008.

  • Social Safety Net (SSN) Programme beneficiaries: 4286 individuals

The disability Program provides the following:

  • Carries out needs assessment for adaptation works for the shelters of persons with disabilities for further necessary intervention.

  • Sponsors students with various disabilities in specialized institutions.

  • Mainstreams visually impaired students and students with motor disabilities at UNRWA schools.

  • Provides children with disabilities with psycho-therapy and covers rehabilitation services such as prosthetic devices, corrective devices.

UNRWA supports the Community Based Rehabilitation Program through covering rent of the center, salaries of Learning Support teacher and specialized persons.

Community Services

  • A number of NGOs are active in Beddawi, including Al-Najda, Beit Atfal Al-Soumoud, Ghassan Kanafani Cultural Foundation, Lina Nabulsi National Association and the Palestinian Red Crescent Society. The services they provide include sponsorship programmes for orphans, vocational trainings, medical services and hospitalization and kindergartens.

  • One community managed women's programme centre that runs skill-training courses, apprenticeship and tutoring classes, organizes awareness raising sessions on health, social, legal, human rights and gender issues and coordinates with local NGOs to respond to community needs.
