AUDIO VISUAL ARCHIVES
A wide selection of audio visual materials has been
produced by UNRWA since the 1950's covering Palestine refugees and the
political, social and economic environment in which they live in Jordan,
Lebanon, the Syrian Arab Republic, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
Most of this material - news clips, film footage (much originally shot
in 16mm), videos, stills and slides - will be digitalized for archival
purposes. When this project is completed the material will be available
for broadcast, research and educational use.
UNRWA VIDEO CLIPS BROADCAST BY CABLE NEWS NETWORK
(CNN) WORLD REPORT
Between 1989 and 1997, UNRWA was producing
award-winning two and a half minute video clips for Cable News Network
(CNN) World Report covering a wide range of topics related to Palestine
refugees and the Agency's work. They included stories such as the
Agency's Peace Implementation Programme to improve Palestinian living
conditions; the demolition of refugee houses by Israeli security forces
in the Gaza Strip; the impact of military closure on the West Bank and
Gaza; the Palestine refugee issue - 1948 to 1991; a kindergarten scheme
in the Syrian Arab Republic; environmental health problems in Lebanon
and the Gaza Strip, and much more.
A CNN news clip prepared by UNRWA's Public Information
Office, Gaza HQ, was nominated as one of three finalists for the Best
Daily News Story of 1996 to be screened on CNN's World Report news
programme. The UNRWA clip told the story of a young girl with
disabilities in Kalandia refugee camp in the West Bank who used a toy
library financed by UNRWA and operated by the community rehabilitation
centre in the camp. This was the fifth time an UNWRA news clip had been
a finalist, and in 1993 an UNRWA news clip won an award for the best
news story. An UNRWA video clip on the micro-enterprise programme in
Gaza was broadcast on Cable News Network (CNN) World Report in April
2000.
