EMERGENCY AID

  • UNRWA has provided emergency assistance to Palestine refugees and to their neighbours many times in its nearly 56 years of activity.

  • During the prolonged civil conflict in Lebanon and the 1982 invasion of Lebanon by Israel, UNRWA repeatedly provided emergency housing, medical care and food to thousands of homeless, fleeing refugees.

  • During the first intifadah (1987-1993) in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, the Agency provided emergency medical care to the injured and food rations for both refugees and other residents of the two areas.

  • The Agency also regularly provides tents, blankets and food to refugees in the harsh winter weather which often affects the region.

  • Since September 2000, UNRWA has been providing emergency assistance to the thousands of refugees affected by the ongoing conflict in the West Bank and Gaza.
