HEADQUARTERS & FIELD OFFICES

UNRWA Headquarters, Gaza

UNRWA's field operations are handled by five separate field offices located in Amman (Jordan), Beirut (Lebanon), Damascus (Syrian Arab Republic), East Jerusalem (West Bank), and Gaza City (Gaza Strip). Agency Headquarters are located in Gaza and Amman having been relocated from Vienna, Austria in 1996. The move of Headquarters was decided by the UN Secretary-General and endorsed by the General Assembly as a demonstration of the commitment of the United Nations to the Middle East peace process. Between 1950 and 1978, UNRWA Headquarters had been located in Beirut. The Agency also operates two small liaison offices at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and the Palais des Nations in Geneva. It also has an office in Cairo, Egypt.
