Zaragoza Regional Council in
Spain has this year pledged nearly EUR€7,600 in support of UNRWA
projects to improve the water and sanitation infrastructures of
two refugee camps in the West Bank.
Jerusalem, 4 September 2009
As in previous years, Zaragoza Regional Council in
Spain has contributed funds to improve the situation of the most
vulnerable families in West Bank refugee camps. In 2008, the Spanish
region offered direct supported to approximately 15,000 people in the
Beit Jibrin and Dheisheh camps through the rehabilitation of storm water
channels, sewerage pipes and manholes.
In addition, the Council’s contribution has enabled
the employment of local construction workers by the project, improving
prospects for their households and families.
UNRWA’s cooperation with Zaragoza Regional Council
began in 2006, when the Region committed its support of the
rehabilitation of seven Special Hardship families in UNRWA’s shelters in
the West Bank.
