Dutch Government to give emergency aid to Gaza
Strip
Thursday, 4 October 2007

Amsterdam - The Netherlands plans to give some 3 million euros (4.24
million dollars) in emergency humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, Dutch
Minister for Development and International Cooperation Bert Koenders
said Thursday. Koenders added the United Nations had asked the
Netherlands for an extra contribution to alleviate the situation of
Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) would spend the
Dutch money on food, fuel and medication, the minister said.
Gaza has become closed territory since the militant Hamas movement
took over power in the salient several months ago.
Israel has closed all borders with the Gaza Strip and the local
economy has come to an almost complete standstill.
