OUR PARTNERS

UNRWA co-operates with governments, other U.N. agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), universities, advocacy groups, research institutes, logistical experts and suppliers. Between them, they help provide an array of services for vulnerable refugees ranging from education, health services, food aid to the provision of legal assistance or mental health.

Donors

Over 60 bilateral and multilateral donors contribute to the financing of UNRWA’s field programmes and projects. In 2008, the European Union (EU) was the most substantial donor with nearly US$ 190 million dollars pledged to UNRWA activities. The EU was followed by the United States, the second largest contributor over the same period followed by Sweden, the United Kingdom and Norway.
UNRWA works in partnership with a multitude of donors - national governments and aid agencies, private foundations, grassroots organizations, companies, other United Nations agencies and more.

The United Nations

Within the UN, the agency fulfils its mandate through frequent co-operation with specialised agencies, including the World Food Programme, the UN Children's Fund, and the World Health Organisation. UNRWA also works closely with the Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the UN Development Programme and the UN Population Fund.

Civil Society Organisations

UNRWA engages with civil society at many levels in its five fields of operation in order to support people in their efforts to build a better life. Among its civil society partners, UNRWA includes non-government organizations (NGOs), community-based organizations (CBOs), youth and women's organizations, academic institutions and policy and research networks. Substantive partnership with civil society is of great strategic importance in order to help our beneficiaries develop feelings of national ownership and accountability, as well as to ensure the quality and relevance of UNRWA’s programmes.

Private Sector and Foundations

Because UNRWA recognizes that the private sector and foundations can be important partners in advancing its mission to ensure that every Palestinian refugee child has a stable future; it is working to develop a strategy in order to better engage with corporations and foundations both in the region and abroad in the coming years.

UNRWA Associations

The mission of the Friends of UNRWA Associations is to support the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. The Friends of UNRWA Associations are non-profit organizations that raise funds from the public (including regional and local governments) and the private sector and disseminate information to the public about UNRWA’s programmes and activities in the Middle East.
