CNMC - The Civilian Observers -
2007 Planned Activities |
|
 |
In missions to the Lake Chad
area, the land boundary and to the Bakassi Peninsula, the UN Observers,
monitor the withdrawal and transfer of authority, the rights of the
affected populations, and accompany the demarcation exercise.
|
 |
In previous missions they have
also highlighted a number of issues such as the resettlement of
individuals, fishing practices, soil erosion, provision of basic
infrastructures etc. In the upcoming confidence building activities,
they will, through visits, follow up on the above mentioned issues and
similar ones, as well as assess the requirements needed to address them.
|
 |
In light of their TORs,
missions will be organized to Lake Chad area (at least one) and to the
Land Boundary (at least two, see below). In addition, the visits to the
Bakassi Peninsula (at least two) prior to the Follow-up Committee
meetings are also expected.
|
 |
The observers will be
accompanying the demarcation efforts, visiting areas where border
pillars are to be installed. In this context, it is expected that two
field visits to the Land Boundary will take place in 2007. The length
of these missions may vary from one to two months.
